And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
I don't have one that's that new, but our older model has been very reliable over a period of years. Very easy to use and set up. And you can manage channels on the website, which is nice. - macxcool
I have a firestick on my tv. Works pretty good. There's a lot of free streaming but if you want sports and most "cable" channels, you'll have to pay for the service. I'm currently using Sling orange and blue. I liked YouTubetv but they got too expensive.
I've been using a Roku streaming box like that for something like a decade up 'till this past Christmas when the 48" TV died and I replaced it with a 50" Roku TV.
Wish you better luck with the Roku TV than I've had. I wish I'd have stuck to a simple TV, the 'smart' TV has to be rebooted often. Even to watch over the air channels from the antenna. Then I realized that someday Roku will no longer support the Roku TV, and it will be bricked.
Roku devices are great, but I don't particularly recommend the stick version. At least the one I have has little capacity to store streaming apps (so that they don't need to be reloaded when you start them).
I got one for Christmas and it works like a charm. I do like the voice entry option. I only use a few apps so I can't really comment on the capacity. You could power it via the HDMI port, but on my TV that turns off with the TV so the stick has to reboot every time. It does come with a separate power option and that's what I use now.
Lots of Rokus (Roki ?)in my house, even for "smart" TVs. The external boxes just seem to work better. I go with the Ultra or older Premier versions. Usually have a good deal on them around black friday.
Mine seems to work fine - the stick part. The remote hasn't held up that well. A couple of impacts with the carpet and it takes several hits on the "OK" button to make contact. My fault for dropping it, I guess, but that is part of the expected environment for a TV remote, isn't it?
Depends on your interests are, theres some good shows, but 90% of it is just garbage designed for dumbasses. so you just gotta hunt for actual good shows,
, Im a nerd so I have a subscription to This Old House, so I can watch any episode of their 47 seasons.
and I like comedy shows, so I love watching good sitcoms like My Name is Earl, Raising Hope, Young Sheldon (start at season 4, its his older brother thats funny) Cheers, Friends, Seinfeld, Home Improvement, Son of the Beach, Rodney, Fraiser, King of the Hill, Futurama, etc anything with Leno or Tim Allen in it. the Muppet show is on disney and hulu, good clean fun for anyone.
and some dramas like Bosch, Bosch Legacy, Lincoln Lawyer, Reacher, Night Agent, etc anything with Nathan Fillion in it.
It seems like Landman and Tulsa King might be good but I havent paid to watch em yet. I recently rewatched both seasons of Movin' On, which was on Roku
"the food that built america" is a good series I think. tells the backstory behind all of the iconic american foods
I use an app called Just Watch, that tells you what show is on which streamer service
I also pay for youtube premium so I dont have to watch the endless commercial interruptions, cause theres alot of good stuff on youtube,

Yeah. Get a real TV, then plug your shit into it. That way you can change brands or versions of shit as appropriate.
DeleteYes, got one a few months ago I think from Amazon. Works fine, many free channels, many premium channels...and often nothing really worth watching.

ReplyDeleteyeah we have about 5 roku TVs in our house. We get Youtube, Netflix, amazon, Paramount and a buncha free streaming things
ReplyDeleteI downloaded the Roku app onto my iPhone, so I use that as my remote control. Buying a Roku is a hell of a lot cheaper than cable and Dish nowadays.
ReplyDeleteGet the Ultra. Has Bluetooth for headphones, faster processor, better video options.
ReplyDeleteI agree, also, you can plug in an external hard drive/memory stick to watch your own movies.
DeletePlus it's not that much more expensive

ReplyDeleteAll I really care about is Fox News and Food Channel. I guess I'm stuck with cable.
ReplyDeleteSling is a decent alternative to cable.

ReplyDeleteHave used older models (still do) and work well.
ReplyDeleteHad 1 for years now. It's very simple to set up & use.
ReplyDeleteIt has free content(although not all to your liking). I give it 5 stars LOL.
Simple question; is there anything worth watching? Haven't had a tv in decades
ReplyDeletebecause it just got too stupid...
