I almost always flash my bright lights when entering an intersection... at least out in the country when the intersection has a stop sign for the entering vehicles. In the city, I really try very hard to avoid speeding up to make a yellow light.
The country I live in, the time that "in a blink of an eye" represents is the time from when the light turns green until the first honk from behind you. Irritating actually.

Ain't being a smart ass, almost got killed by a car going wring way on a divided highway, at a traffic light for a crossover road, I just caught it coming corner of my eye and hit the brakes, so close shaved chrome off my bumper, after that I never hit the gas till I look, hard, every direction. Put my heart in my mouth tell you what. Those folks never had a chance, not one looked up the wrong way.

My parents taught me to always look both ways before crossing the street. this applies to driving in a car espacially, not just walking
