And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Construction began around 140 year earlier. They had no idea how they would build the dome……… but that was someone else’s problem! Luckily Filippo Brunelleschi came along. It is an interesting story if you like architectural history. He not only came up with a practical way to construct the dome, but created a lot of the machinery used to work at such a height. “ Brunelleschi's Dome: How a Renaissance Genius Reinvented Architecture”.
I visited for a few days in 1979. It was absolutely magnificent then - my favorite Italian city. I hear that diversity hasn't been wonderful for Italy but I'd still like to go back and rent a villa in the country for a couple of weeks.
Wait, you're saying this isn't in Kenya or anywhere else in sub-saharan africa (I make the distinction since many are now saying that ancient Egyptians were far closer genetically to Europeans than modern Egyptians and anyone south of the desert)?
