And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Henry plays a character that Jane would hate. And he does it well. Same with some of his westerns. I wouldn't say it has anything to do with Hanoi Jane.
Also turned into a great movie with Henry Fonda and Paul Newman.

That scene when Joe Ben ( Richard Jaeckel) drowns is very hard to watch.

Movie is one of the best movies I've ever seen made from a book. Ever. Not overly faithful to the book but captures the spirit of it exactly.
