And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
My sister's family has a Great Pyrenees; a really sweet dog and a hog for attention and affection. But she doesn't seem to like sustained eye contact. I know that for some animals that's a threatening gesture. Maybe some dogs think that, as well?
Neighbor had a Border Collie, a rescue from a puppy mill. For the 1st 6 months or so, I couldn't so much as make eye contact without him growling at me, even across the room. Then one night, we're sitting round the fire, talking, and he comes up and puts his paw in my lap. Best buds after that, though not quite the glutton for attention like the labs.
