And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Not in the US Capitol I wouldn't. Falls seem to be the only way to get rid of the geriatric lifelong incumbents. There was just one the other day, an 81 yo NC Rep.
Going down those stairs you can't see the bark. That polished wood could start looking like a slide very quickly. Only takes one misstep to get things rollin'.
That is pretty. We could use one of these in the US Capitol.
ReplyDeleteYou'd want a handrail.

Lots of pics of deeply disturbing stairs on the internet and 99% of them don't look anywhere near as beautiful.
ReplyDeleteYou'd have to be a real clutz to trip on steps this large!( Or drunk, but that's another discussion.)

Now imagine bare or wet feet.
DeleteWe have wooden stairs and barefeet sort of "stick" to them. Feet with socks on will kill you every time, especially when going down.
DeleteI am guessing that if you are sober and too dead tired, the tripping factor is near zero.
ReplyDeleteThe trick besides a handrail maybe is as long as all even steps should be be functional
ReplyDeleteImagine stubbing a toe on those risers.
ReplyDeleteNo handrail?
ReplyDeleteIf I ever did manage to get up those, I'm thinking me and my gimp leg would spend the rest of our lives upstairs.
