And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
https://cirrusaircraft.com/aircraft/vision-jet/ The Cirrus Vision SF50, also known as the Vision Jet, is a single-engine very light jet designed and produced by Cirrus Aircraft of Duluth, Minnesota, United States. After receiving deposits starting in 2006, Cirrus unveiled an aircraft mock-up on 28 June 2007 and a prototype on 26 June 2008. It made its maiden flight on 3 July 2008. Development slowed in 2009 due to lack of funding. In 2011, Cirrus was bought by CAIGA, a Chinese enterprise that funded the project a year later.
I see a prop spinner where a jet exhaust can should be if it is jet powered. It is definitely turbine powered, but a turbo prop which makes more sense for this type.
To make a turbo prop from this you would need to add a reduction gearbox (in a PT6 the power turbine spins at 37,500rpm but the prop turns at 2,200rpm), and a long driveshaft, adding weight, and driving up initial and maintenance costs. Furthermore, Piaggio Avanti operators discovered that very expensive propeller blades don't like being in a hot exhaust stream. Al_in_Ottawa
V tail, that is a big NOPE in my book. They are squirrely and things can go sideways quickly. The scariest flight I flew was in a Bonanza with a V tail. I will take a T tail, tail dragger every time.
You've never flown a Vision Jet, I can tell. (I wonder, from your statement, if you are even a real pilot) This isn't your daddie's V-tailed Bonanza from 70 years ago.
Not nearly the issues as with the Bonanza. (Which really has problems only at the edge of the envelope, the Bonanza's issues are overhyped and only by those people who have never flown one)
The Vision jet is an expensive toy. Like 2.5 million worth of expensive. It only really carries 2 (4 seats, but not full fuel then) and it flies nice, but not that fast. Fun to fly though, Dude that used to hangar his SR-22T next to me bought a Vision Jet. I've flown it. Nice, but not really practical.
Not my first thought with that header but OK.
ReplyDeleteWhadda Ya, a Navy guy?
DeleteCirrus Vision SF50
ReplyDeleteNot sure where, Knoxville airport maybe? One of those beauties is suspended from the ceiling. Fascinating. Gotta do some research, win the lottery..

For a jet, thirsty and slow.
ReplyDeleteRather have a HondaJet, plus the winning Powerball ticket to buy it.

A friend of mine is one of the test pilots. There is quite a waiting list for all of the Cirrus aircraft
