Odd place for a swimming hole

  1. Had to be a huge effort to dig that out on a mountain ridge! One gopher hole in the side of the mountain drains it quickly. But very fun place to swim or fish. Wonder where it is?

    3. Neato
Scroll along the hilltop to see another one being built.
Might they be mining something in the process?

    4. Aha! Yes. Reservoirs for snow making.

  3. Probably a reservoir, and the small A-frame structure might be the pumphouse. Oddly, many times you'll find a productive well on a hilltop because water follows the uplifted strata. My neighbor drilled a well on his hilltop property and tapped into an artesian flow.

  4. Looks to be the water supply for several 'residences'.

  7. It is water for snow making, there are two ski lift stations at the far end of the lake.

  8. Kind of small for a reservoir. Have seen a number of small reservoirs in Germany where they pump the water up into them during low power demand hours and drain it through power generation turbines when demand is peaking.
