Probably a reservoir, and the small A-frame structure might be the pumphouse. Oddly, many times you'll find a productive well on a hilltop because water follows the uplifted strata. My neighbor drilled a well on his hilltop property and tapped into an artesian flow.
Kind of small for a reservoir. Have seen a number of small reservoirs in Germany where they pump the water up into them during low power demand hours and drain it through power generation turbines when demand is peaking.
