And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
I learned to fly a Cessna 140 back in the 70's. I got to fly a converted Alaskan 140. It had over twice the horsepower and a six foot wider wingspan. It literally jumped in the air when I applied throttle and released the brakes. Tail draggers are fun to fly, but a pia on the taxi way.

There have been many makes and models of planes in that format. Naturally, they vary in design details. As a high-school kid working for an FBO, I once refueled a Piper Cub, and its fuel tank was right in front of the pilot. The fuel quantity indicator was part of the filler cap, poking up through the cowling (behind the engine and in front of the windscreen). To imagine the construction, take a longish piece of coat-hanger wire and stick one end into a cork. Run it up through the hole in the tank cap (with cork at the bottom), and bend about 1/2-inch of the top end at 90 degrees. (If you're refueling a hot Cub, don't spill any fuel.)
Yes beautiful, and fun to fly I bet.

DeleteDo these really carry all their fuel in the wings?

ReplyDeleteGreat callback. 140 iirc.
DeleteWhat happened to the actress? She had a short talk radio run, and trouble with an addiction. Seemed a good chick.
That thing can take off and land on a small envelope.
ReplyDeleteCarefully parked so as not to spill her beer
