I have a 50+ year old Submariner that is in desperate need of an intermediate service which runs about $1200. That is about what I paid for the used watch back in 1984. It will still run but looses 4 to 5 minutes every hour.
Bought and still have the Pepsi Rolex. I was 19 at the time, some people thought I was crazy, $850.00 dollars in 1983 and now worth around $15,000 thousand. I have never owned another watch and a little tuneup about every fifteen years and good to go.
Dearly Beloved has an Oyster I purchased in 1983 (I think) from the PX for $1250. I had never spent so much money for a watch so it was a bit of nervous apprehension when he opened his Christmas gift that year.
The watch has been in for a couple of cleanings and one repair after he dropped it face-down on a marble floor but other than that, he wears it everyday with pride.
Unfortunately they are all set on European time.
