    1. I was shocked when I learned that some people have seasons for stew and even chili. It's time for these good eats when I want them!

    2. I don't know why some folks think that it is "weird" to not eat soup or stews or even chili in hot weather. Since my linage is Northern European, we eat cold stuff in the summer and hot stuff in the winter.

  6. That should be enough carrots, but you can't have too many.

  7. You can thrown in more veg's, meats, and juice and I won't complain as long as there is some thick crusty butter bread for soppin' to go along with it. nom nom nom

  8. I've been making beef stew in an instapot, it comes out great and I don't really have to plan ahead to cook it.

  9. stumbled across a 10 quart cast iron Dutch oven with lid at St. Vinnies last week , I foresee many batches of stew and other slow cooked goodness from that old iron

  10. The wife happens to be making a batch today. She also throws in parsnip, which is great. The above looks like the gravy is a bit watery for my taste.

    1. Xanthan gum can be bought at the grocery, usually it's with the bread-making stuff. Absolute nuclear-level thickening agent. We use it in the oil patch to thicken up the drilling muds, if it's not too hot downhole. Stuff is amazing.

    2. (completely without taste & all natural, doesn't do anything but thicken whatever liquid it's added to - it also stablizes emulsions)
