And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
I spent a short time in the PRC. Beijing and smaller (ha!) cities. I was impressed by the seamless flow of high-density traffic, including pedestrians, in different directions. A lot of the success of this depends on ego-free driving, and the assumptions that (1) pedestrians will move at a steady pace, becoming predictable moving obstacles, and (2) drivers will move around them. The importance of the ego-free driving cannot be overemphasized.
2007 somewhere is Saigon. First time visiting wifes family. Six or seven of us. Im on the far end, away from oncoming traiifc, carrying our one year old child. Stood parallel to traffic and walked into the street. Slowly walked across street as the seas parted. Made it across without incident. Never forget it.
If someone asks, "What is overpopulation?" This would be a perfect example.

ReplyDeleteSurprisingly, much like Rome. Do not, repeat, do not hesitate or move faster. Walk steadily and all will be well.

ReplyDeletethis cat should be playing the theme from Rocky when he hit the other side of the street.
ReplyDeleteI'm reminded of the guy with the plastic shopping bags trying to stop the PLA tanks from crossing Tienanmen Square.
