And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Nah, way off base with that thought. The GOP was going to take the gloves in the 1964 race and come out with stories of JFK’s philandering and infidelity. Nixon was pretty much an outsider then. No way he would of ever been part ofJFK’s assassination
There is some evidence to support that belief. He may in fact have been "handed" the presidency because of his role...much in the way Ford was handed the presidency for his role in the Warren Commission lie-fest.
oh to be in a time when different sides of the government could agree to disagree and take it to the ballot box without rancor or hatred. Yes these two got along and could work together for the good of our republic. Particularly Kennedy would be aghast at what passes for Democrat policy today, he was far to the right of dems today. And Nixon was more moderate. Every since Nixon got caught doing what both sides did for decades or more the media has turned both sides against the other. You never heard commentators wishing someone would shoot the candidate till now. Were the 50's perfect, hell no but to wish for perfect is to get nothing but grief. Lemons to lemonade
Nixon and JFK were friends... Nixon was always an outsider, hence the Watergate hit job They both had the same enemies in the end... Both served in the Pacific admirably.. Nixon was a great personal admirer of JFK
Nixon also frequently visited Bobby Kennedy in the hospital while recovering for several month. That was after JFK was killed and before the '68 election. That was back when politicians could leave the politics in the office.
I would say that Daniel Eslberg did more to end the war...and technically, Eisenhower began our "involvement" there...even though JFK made it so much worse.
Both served as naval officers in the South Pacific during WWII, and Nixon was reportedly distraught when Kennedy, who was already an author, public figure, and ambassador's son, went MIA after PT 109 disappeared one dark night in the Solomons.
Nixon notably didn't squawk and squeal and start a national controversy when Chicago Mayor Daley conveniently and rather ham-fistedly "found" several boxes of ballots late on election night 1960, which magically proved just enough (stop me if you've heard this one) to put Illinois into the [D] column, and win the 1960 presidential election for Kennedy, in one of the most narrowly-decided presidential elections in U.S. history.
at least he "found then on election night" instead of 2 or three days later, or after a "water leak". taped up windows, especially when they were right under the tables in the counting room.
Read "Files on Kennedy" which is a compilation of interviews with James Files, the man who delivered the head shot with a Remington .222 Fireball. Oswald met Files when he arrived in Dallas from Chicago. Oswald brought him to his hotel room and showed him around town, exit routes, where he could target practice, like the good go-fer Oswald was, and that's all he was. There were four other guns aimed at Kennedy. Two already hit him when Files had to deliver the head shot. But with strict instructions not to harm Jackie. Wikipedia and other places will say UNTRUE, conspiracy theory, but this book has me convinced how it all went down. Johnson was behind the whole deal.
Listen to RFK jr, JFK and his brother RFK had made it clear that they intended to dismantle the CIA and "scatter it to the wind" I'm sure LBJ had a hand in it but the CIA was into it up to their bloody elbows,
Even back then the whole thing was a scam, us vs them.
ReplyDeleteIt has ALWAYS been the people versus the government ever since government was invented.
DeleteCook county.
ReplyDeletePalm tree?
DeleteProbably Key Biscayne. I've read that they were pretty good personal friends from when they both joined Congress in 1948.
DeleteVets.
DeleteAnd one of them possibly complicit in the assassination of the other.

DeleteWe all know that it was Lyndon Johnson that ordered the CIA to kill Kennedy. Oswald just happened to be there to do the same.
