And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Larry Shinoda was the main designer of the Vettes. When Chevrolet said they were going to make the 1964 Vette without the split window, he said they should have just forgotten the whole thing.
I had an uncle that had a speed shop in the 60's and 70's. He kept all the split window parts he took off. Over the years he put all of them back on for some serious $$. Another popular mod was to add an extra brake light on each side.
I recall reading a performance review of this as a kid. The writer loved the look and feel of it but said the body gave it just enough lift to be a bad airplane. Never so much as sat in one let alone drove one. What a great looking auto.
Worked for a guy (out of his garage) who had one of these in that garage. Beautiful, something wrong in the power-train, never saw it run. He was a Harley guy (mostly), not a car mechanic. Years later I heard he accidentally ran himself over working under the hood of a Bronco/Blazer (whatever, it killed him) He had a Harley Cafe' racer he wanted me to restore, wonder what happened to that Corvette?
Oh dear, I'm getting wobbly, need to sit down.
ReplyDeleteWait a minute, I AM sitting down!
Still my favorite year.

ReplyDeleteThe split window was unpopular in '63, many were replaced with the single window in 64-65.
