I've worn steel-toed shoes and boots most of my adult life. After I retired, I was surprised at how light "normal" shoes are, but opted to go back to steel-toes...it's a comfort thing I guess. irontomflint
That's what I thought at one time. That was back when you could get a good pair of work boots for less than $100. Then time marched on and they got more expensive, even if they weren't American made. Then 10 years ago I told myself that once, before I died, I was going to own a really good pair of boots and I found them. Zamberlin, made in Italy. They feel like they're broke in the first time you put them on, and that first pair wore like iron. The great thing is that the uppers wore out at the same time the soles wore out. I'm now wearing my second pair.
I have no regrets about spending the money. Some things are worth it. And to me, a quality pair of boots are worth it. Besides, fifty bucks a year is a cheap price to pay for comfortable feet.
Give the factory in Marshfield Wisconsin a call. If they still have all the clicker dies to cut the leather, they will make what you want. Worked for them for 3 years.
I wear size 16 shoes and them kicks gotta go three pound per.
