And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
I have worked on flight lines in brutal cold conditions where you had to preheat EVERYTHING to start it. You had to preheat the pre heat equipment. You quickly learn how to dress in freezing cold. I couldn't believe how many stupid pilots (doctors mostly) who wanted to jump in their plane, start it up cold and then take off without even warming it up just like they do with their cars. All the best airport crashes we had were doctors.
BTW, if I was flying those in the Great White North, they'd all be painted in stripes of Blaze Orange and Neon Yellow, top and bottom. So if one went down, you could find the bodies.
That's one of Buffalo Airways' DC-3s. They have 6 of them. I think that might be the owner, Joe McBryan, in the photo above. Looks like him. Their adventures are documented on the TV series 'Ice Pilots'. It takes a lot of work to keep those old birds flying.
Joe's latest adventure is to resurrect the old Aero Union / Air Strike fleet of Lockheed P-3A Orion Air Tankers based out of Chico, CA. The new company is called Air Spray. I hope he succeeds. I love watching those planes fly overhead.

Not in that environment.
ReplyDeleteAir Molokai flew DC-3s while I was stationed at Pearl Harbor in the early 80s. Flew on them on a number of times.
ReplyDeleteA DC-3 is one of the few planes I'd trust in that environment.

DC-3/C-47, almost immortal. The upgraded turbo prop version is awesomely capable.
