  1. When I was a boy I tried using a scythe to cut the grass in a field. It was a back breaker.

    2. I bet those boys could swing that scythe to cut more than oat sheafs, and they probably grew up into strapping young men who you wouldn't wanna mess with.

  7. I remember my father telling me that he picked cotton in depression era Texas for 50 cents per 100 pounds. Same principle, different geography.
