Talking BBQ with The Captain yesterday, and he told me that this is his go-to choice these days

  1. ..big fan of TJ here. Even so, somehow missed this BBQ sauce. Their regular green and Hatch Valley salsa is very good and reasonably priced. They have a great corn & chili tomato-less salsa. Keep a jar handy at suppertime. Not my taste but they have a well prepared recipe for Carolina Gold mustard base BBQ sauce. Maybe one day they'll put up some Alabama White BBQ sauce. TJ's is not the place for everyday grocery shopping but they're outstanding for frozen side dishes to round out a meal, specialty items for a treat and a wide selection of snacks. Peruvian corn nuggets are a peanut-like snack that comes to mind. Bakery items are unique and never fail my sweet-tooth. Whoever woulda 'taut a wrap that's almost a sacrilege to "Ybor City", but they have a tortilla wrap Cuban Sandwich that's outstanding. Check out their website and become a fan.

    1. Sauce or not is a personal choice thing in my world.

  3. Where I am from we do not criticise people for using or not using condiments such as BBQ sauce. However, we do know that Your and You're are not interchangable words. Schools must be better here.

  4. BBQ sauce? The only sauce is mustard based & not tomato. Preferably Bessingers. If you really need sauce you're doing it wrong. That should start an argument. Hehe. Ready,go.

    1. Why would I want to argue with a stranger who wants to tell me how I like my food?

  5. Agree with most posters. When I get asked why I don’t sauce I answer why would I cover up 10-13 hours of tasty yet commited work managing logs on an off smoker?

  7. A local Waxahachie, TX sauce: Four Escobars, most excellent. 👍🏻

  10. Sauce is good for the 2nd or 3rd day left-overs. After multiple re-heating you don't want it to dry out. But people get all pretentious over which is the best. Sweet Baby Ray's is plenty good if the Pit Master did his job right. That, or take whatever is on sale, cut it with some vinegar and beer to thin it out, warm it on the side.

The mustard based sauces aren't bad, just not that common in Texas. But again, most are too thick. Cut them down before hand.
