And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
I was fortunate to be stationed at NAS Key West from 1966-68. My office was 200 yards (I think) from one of the most used runways. Our whole wall was windows. The biggest thrill was when a Phantom would line up to take off and sit there idling for several minutes. At dusk or at night it was really impressive to see just the lights on the plane and then see them go to full afterburners to take off. I always regretted not being able to take photos of them but cameras were not allowed in my space.
Interesting factoid: MiG-19 weighs less than internal fuel load of Phantom. My bud Johnny flew Phantoms for USN in Vietnam, said MiG-19 was most formidable adversary
My favorite plane of the early jet age, awesome shot
ReplyDeleteOld Droopy Nose...condensation off the wingtips never ceases to thrill...
