Beat Hot Weather

  1. These work, but the problem is they use room air for the condenser (hot) side, and blow it out the window. As a result, outside air has to get back in to replace the exhaust, diluting the result. Depending on where it comes in and conditions outside, it may or may not be satisfactory.

The better "portables" put the works outside, and blow the cold air IN (if you can find one).

I have heard rumours of "portable" units that use water for the hot side(think ground source heat pump here), and don't need a window.

  2. It has a humidity tray (pulls moisture from the air) that must be emptied frequently.
This unit is very expensive and it's dubious as to what it delivers. The con is that most people simply do not understand how air conditioning works and they believe that if a machine blows out cold air it is doing it's job. silly asses
