And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Thats the kind of thing said by one who believes the world is too crowded. My answer is go travel around. Drive across the land. Better yet, hop in an aircraft and fly all over. Down low, around 5,000 feet. You'll see how empty the lans. Even in the East.
The common reply is not all land is arable, it wont support living. Yabut, already people live in non-arable land for a long time now. Many brothers and sisters are a joy.
Seen this'n before. In 1986, after our son was born, I read an article in the WSJ that said it cost about $185,000.00 to raise a kid from conception through college graduation. The next day I made an appt to get snipped. They haven't gotten any less expensive since. The snip was like a kick in the balls and cost $350 cash.
if you encourage them to join the military and go to jr college the 1st years, college isn't a problem. If that family grows up happy as that picture, in your old age you'll have something to enjoy.
Very true, ge, and when they grow up, as my kids have, and raise a family of their own, and raise their kids, your grandkids, you can share in their happiness as they enhance your own happiness at seeing the upbringing you instilled in your kids is passed on. Good stuff!
Yabbut, you need, like, a 6-9 pax van to transport them anywhere with each in the required child car seat. Or an Escalade or Suburban or...? Anymore, they do not build private vehicles for large families. And that doesn't even get you to the older years, when you have to pack in sports equipment bags, overnight-stay backpacks, coolers & snack sacks, and ... friends.
Edited to Add: By the way, I have 4 g'kids in one family, 3 in the other, and that max'd out their transport options. Now the eldest 3 are driving, one (18) with his license, two (15) with permits, each licensing soon.
I remember probably 7 of us jammed in dad's Ford Falcon wagon going on vacation to the Adirondacks. You have to be as old as I am to know just how wonderful we had it, and we were nothing like rich. I'm sorry for young people today. You have things we never dreamed of, but you are poor.
Nah, that's WAY too many kids!!
ReplyDeleteI say "have all the kids you want and can afford".

ReplyDeleteHappy, because dad is home with the family, and the kids know who he is!

DeleteIn my simple view, it is not how many. It is how you raise them that counts, Teach them that hard work, accountability and honesty counts.
ReplyDeleteI don't know any older folks who say they wish they'd had fewer kids. Or grandkids.
ReplyDeleteBarefoot & pregnant!
ReplyDeleteYay, White People!
