And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
My kids had a gecko some years ago. Getting them to look after the damn thing was pointless and it always fell to me to get crickets from the pet shop to feed it. It had remarkably intelligent eyes for a lizard. After a good while of my having to deal with him I just decided I'd let him go. We live back in the woods with a creek a hundred yards or so behind the house. I carried him on my hand to the creek and during the walk down there those intelligent eyes looked out with a look of absolute amazement. After a lizard lifetime in a glass box he was seeing the world for the first time. I put him down by the creek where I figured there must be 100 insects per square foot, a veritable smorgasbord. Now have all the fun you want pilloring me for doing that because I don't know if he lasted an hour, a day, a year or if he's still out there, now three feet long. How ever long he lasted for whatever that time was he was a real jungle lion and he lived, he really lived.
It was a good day to be an amphibian!
