Yellow Classic

Remember getting out of the truck to lock the hubs?  I sure do.

Good times.

  1. Back when I was a newlywed, Denver had the "Christmas Blizzard of '82." I had a Datsun 310GX at the time, and my wife's parents had something similar to the above, but more enclosed. When we got to their place for Christmas Eve, I had to run my car into a snowbank across the street because their 4WD was stuck in the driveway - her father had had it serviced the week before, and they'd installed the hubs the wrong way.

We were snowed in there almost a week. I still remember digging tunnels through the snow in their front yard with my brother-in-law.

  2. Remember Dualmatic™ locking hubs? The ones with two levers you'd pull out and rotate 180°? I had a set on an old WWII weapons carrier (Power Wagon) when I was a kid.

  5. Warn Hubs, Kent, Washington. Lifetime warranty on their products....back in '70s. Had their hubs on my CJ5, plus one of their overdrives. The previous owner use the Jeep for racing in the sand dunes and blew the overdrive out. I took it in for repair and asked the cost. "Oh, it's free. Lifetime warranty!" One week later, I was using it!

  7. My brothers 1982 42d Ford Bronco had manual locking hubs. Turn the hub levers, back up about 5 feet and then plow forward. It was an awesome vehicle.
