  1. I think it interesting that the wake is slewed to port of the longitudinal axis of the boat.

    That is one cool picture.

  2. A visual remake of Admiral Karl Donitz's WWII propaganda poster;
    ..."caught between the U-Boats and the Luftwaffe"....

    The poster was meant to scare the Allies into believing that there was no place on the surface safe for our ships, instead it became a prophecy of their eventual doom as U-Boat commanders found themselves hiding from the both the British Navy and the Mighty 8th U.S. Airforce!

  4. At least three P-3 Orions are back flying as air tankers. The new company Airstrike has hopes to eventually buy and refurbish seven of bankrupt Aero Union's P-3 Orions. IIRC, two were flying on the fires in California last year.
    It sure is fun to see them flying again.

  5. I bet the MADD boom of the P3 detected it!...maybe this was a picture of a training exercise...maybe the picture is "shopped"...

    1. Exercise. In a real-life combat situation, that boat wouldn't be anywhere near periscope depth.

  9. I was the guy logging the sonar bouy contacts in sonar. I hate sonar bouys.

    1. Always laughed watching (and helping) my Ordnanceman load dozens of sonobuoys on our P-3. Every one had the regulation "Lithium Battery - Do Not Load on Aircraft" warning sticker.
