And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

Snowing heavily at the Shasta Snow Park on the side of the mighty strato-volcano right now.
Haven't seen any avalanche warnings yet, but it is looking to be a good year for the snowpack. Not a skier, but we have done mountaineering and snow camping many times in the area. Avalanche Gulch has its name for a reason. The stone lodge at Horse Camp is a terrific work of masonry. Well worth the hike into it any time of year.
When I was a kid we lived in Medford, and usually went to Mt. Ashland, but on occasion went to Shasta. I hated it. I was always an ice covered slope, and it hurt when you fell down. Not to mention the fact that it's hard skiing on ice.
