Snowing heavily at the Shasta Snow Park on the side of the mighty strato-volcano right now.

  1. Haven't seen any avalanche warnings yet, but it is looking to be a good year for the snowpack.
Not a skier, but we have done mountaineering and snow camping many times in the area. Avalanche Gulch has its name for a reason. The stone lodge at Horse Camp is a terrific work of masonry. Well worth the hike into it any time of year.

  2. When I was a kid we lived in Medford, and usually went to Mt. Ashland, but on occasion went to Shasta. I hated it. I was always an ice covered slope, and it hurt when you fell down. Not to mention the fact that it's hard skiing on ice.
