A Marvel Of Engineering

  1. Is that a Mig 29? Hard to tell without more of the plane visible. Definitely not a Mig 35.

  2. Looks like. That little air scoop on the center section near the port engine is a giveaway.

  3. That's the inlet for the environmental system precooler; basically a radiator that cools hot bleed air off the engines for use in pressurization and cockpit temp control. Engine air is upwards of 700 degrees coming off the compressor. The precooler knocks it down to between 350 & 400 before it goes into the air cycle machine where it's cooled to usable temps. The openings on top just aft of the canopy are alternate air intakes for the engines. The primary inlet has a door that closes it off on the ground for operations on unimproved or debris covered rumways. Keeps the jet from swallowing stuff sucked up off the ground. It's a great idea and one the US should have adopted. I've changed way too many foreign object damaged engines.
