A live power line fell, and it was so hot that it melted through the sidewalk and turned the sand underneath to glass

  4. I have a nearby sidewalk where a power line fell with a similar set of scars.

    I think what actually happens is that the current hits the trapped water molecules in the concrete, and the resultant steam explodes, while the heat melts the lime and aggregate like lava.

    At any rate, every time I pass it, it's a good reminder that high voltage and everything else don't mix.
