A fuel tanker truck explosion on the Iran-Afghanistan border on Saturday caused a chain reaction of blasts so large it could be observed from space.

 Video at the link.

And of course, if they're zeroed in and watching, you could read a newspaper using a satellite in space with the cameras we have.

A fuel tanker truck explosion on the Iran-Afghanistan border on Saturday caused a chain reaction of blasts so large it could be observed from space.

According to the Associated Press, "Two explosions at the border crossing were powerful enough to be spotted from space by NASA satellites. One blast erupted around 1:10 p.m. Afghan time (0840 GMT), the next around a half hour later at 1:42 p.m. local (0912 GMT)."

Iranian state TV is reporting that over 500 trucks transporting natural gas and fuel caught fire as the explosions intensified.

The blaze continued through the day at the Islam Qala border crossing, which is among the busiest border and commercial transit routes connecting Iran and Afghanistan.

The road between the city of Herat and Islam Qala is a dangerous stretch of highway that Afghans rarely travel at night for fear of attacks by criminal gangs. Taliban insurgents also travel freely in the area.

Lots of reasons why this could have happened, but the most likely - Occam's Razor - is some guy was smoking in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Also: "Mohammad, you camel jockey, delivery order says "Kabul", not kaboom!"

  1. I was worried. I thought for a minute it was about a pipeline.

  2. "so large it could be observed from space". MEH no big deal. However, I would be concerned if it moved earth 2 foot out of it's orbit.

  3. and is this is what's going to happen with Buffet's trucks?
Personally I'm happier with the K. pipeline - by far!
At least, shut-off points can be established.

  4. Funny how this has occurred AFTER the faker in chief stopped the USA oil production.

  5. i suspect a forward 'observer' was given a shot he couldn't refuse. "hold my redbull and watch this!" not just our satellites keeping an eye on that map line.

    1. +1–I mean, “dozens of trucks”? Very difficult to believe that’s just happenstance, for that to occur in such a target-rich (and tempting!) environment.

  6. I once did something like that with a gallon can of gasoline, but not like that.

  8. Ima guess that if they hadn't been trying to sell fuel in defiance of international sanctions, no one would have exploded it for them.

    Just spitballing, you understand...
