SpaceX Launch Starship on First 12.5km Flight

Elon said,
"Successful ascent, switchover to header tanks & precise flap control to landing point!"

"Fuel header tank pressure was low during landing burn, causing touchdown velocity to be high & RUD (rapid unplanned disassembly), but we got all the data we needed! Congrats SpaceX team hell yeah!!"

"SN8 did great! Even reaching apogee would’ve been great, so controlling all way to putting the crater in the right spot was epic!!"
From Elon Musk's Twitter account.

  1. You know, there's bullshit, and then there's really good bullshit....only a billionaire could come up with spectacular bullshit like this....that glass would be half full, except that it blew up....

I think that's what RUD means.

  3. rapid unplanned disassembly....why oh why didn't I know that phrase growing up?!!! So many ass beatings I could have prevented with that one little phrase.

  4. Musk is right. The SN8 did complete successfully 95% of its mission. The fact that is crash landed was cause by component failure. Better fail now than later. That is what test and development is all about. It is a major step in getting the USA back into the large over size satellite deployment as the space shuttle did.

  5. This is the vehicle they are planning to hold up to about 100 passengers. IT actually was a pretty successful test. Who ever thought the rockets we saw landing in Sci-Fi movies as a kid would eventually actually do it?

  6. That was a simply amazing test, that I think exceeded everyone's expectations of how well it would go.

Probably the best analysis of this is Scott Manley's video posted this morning:
