And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Actually I think the one on the right is a Winchester '76. Which is funny, given that I'm starting on one or possibly two separate M1876 restoration projects - I was just over on Homestead Gunparts and a couple other places preparing parts orders.
Thanks for the Homestead Gun Parts reference. I may do restorations on 2 old Winchesters this year. My grand pappy's Winchester model 12 and my Pappy's Winchester model 71.
That's some pretty well-pointed log-cabinry right behind them too. Very nice.
ReplyDeleteThey won the West.
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas CW, LL and all the rest of you fellow commenters!
ReplyDeleteHenry, Winchester '66, Winchester '73, Marlin 1893. (or maybe an '89)
ReplyDeleteMy 1893 Marlin is side eject. Those all look like top eject. This is the 1893:

DeleteHeh - long as we're not competing for parts!
DeleteFar much nicer "looking" than mine, but my Marlin 39A, Marlin 1895 and Savage 99 have done their jobs for me for many years.
ReplyDeleteI'll take the elephant gun on the right.
ReplyDeleteSecond from the right is a 1873. Looks exactly like mine. It's my favorite firearm.
ReplyDeleteHmmm,
ReplyDeleteNot to be a stickler, but Remington, as I recall, never made a falling block...many many rolling block rifles, however....
