    1. It was derived from the B-29 via the C-97. The 377 Stratocruiser was more closely related to the B-50.

  2. the flight engineer was the most highly trained person in those days. For all he was worth, the first officer could have held only a private pilot certificate.

  3. Also, the only things that the first officer was allowed to say were: "gear up" and "gear down" and, "I'll take the ugly one". To 'ell with those days. I hate ugly women and have been single ever since.
