And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

The other day someone asked what it was like living so close to two dangerous volcanos (Shasta and Lassen). I sent them this.

I was at Ft Lewis the weekend St Helens blew, at first everyone thought it was a Milwaukee Road train rolling past, we only thought that for about 20 seconds-literally.

ReplyDeleteYou might be able to outrun lava, but can you outrun a pyroclastic flow?
ReplyDeleteAll Cascade volcanoes can produce them.
Better yet, can you outrun the shockwave of a truly huge eruption?
