  2. Beautiful isn't it? And they want to retire it for some hi-tech wonder that is probably going to be like the F-35, a jack of all trades, master of none.

  3. Were I an Air Force Pilot, the A-10 would be my ride of choice....

  4. If I were a Marine AVIATOR, I'd still have extreme red-rash that the Corps didn't lobby hard enough to relieve AF of A-10's when they had half-a-chance.

  5. The military loves the A-10. The Air Force, which, of course, is not part of the military, hates it because it isn't cool enough, and they want to replace it with cooler $100 million aircraft because, well...just because.

  8. The bubble canopy is so large it has it's own weather system. I should be so lucky to fly a Thunderbolt.

  10. If you are in a world of shit, one of the most beautiful sounds is the whine of the turbo-fan then the burp of the GAU-8 as it obliterates tangos that had been raining shit on you.

  11. This is the baddest air frame ever...
It should stay in production forever.
I've heard that the force of the gun
is so powerful that it actually slows
forward motion to a slight extent.
Don't know how accurate that is but
there must be something to it.

    1. That was true of all aircraft with substantial forward firing guns. 8 .50bmg's, 4 20mm, etc. The more ammo it throws, the slower you go.

  12. BRAAAAAAAP! BRAAAAAAAAP! I love it...didn't they learn from the first Gulf war not to get rid of the best ground support aircraft ever?

  13. For about 20 years I lived a couple of miles from the Lake City Army ammunition plant. They have a couple of static mounted 30mm cannons among other weapons on their range. Every couple of weeks they would quality check the rounds they made. 5 to 10 second bursts. The sound is hard to describe, I would hate to be on the receiving end.
