And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

When our money outright sported a picture of a fasces, symbol of Roman authority, power and governance.
My wife works at a very big department store in the cash room. You would be surprised how much silver she brings home. Probably from stolen collections. Over 10 yrs we have a 5 gal jug full.
That's cool - some of them might be mine. I had a huge coin collection as a kid, all in those blue cardboard folders that organized them. One of the kids in the neighborhood broke into my parents' house when I was in college and stole them all, just for drug money. At least I still have the stamp collection. Make sure you look the ones in your jug over in case there are any rarer ones of value.
These dimes, Indian-head pennies and 1/2 dollars were common when I was a kid in the 50s. I miss 'em.

There are two fasces on the wall behind the podium in the House of Representatives. One on each side of the flag.

DeleteBack when money was backed by gold and silver. Then the dilution of it happened. Happened in Roman times and in US History.
