  2. I went and did a little reading, how do they get one round to do blow things up or be canister?

    1. The same way they made the F-111 or FB-111, a fighter and a bomber, two roles it could not do very well when they rolled it out for the first time. And the same way the F-35 will probably not do well at all of the roles it will initially be pushed into.

Those four types of rounds that the AMP round is supposed to replace are so different that a single type of round will not be able to fully replace any one of the original rounds but it does have a clever acronym for a name and in a world where marketing is more important than lethality and promised delivery of future technologies is enough to win a bid, who knows how much will be wasted on it?

    2. Every round has tungsten pellets surrounding the HE. The magic is in the fuze. It can be set to airburst at a set distance, or on contact. Possibly even a short delay after impact, but I'm not sure about that.

    3. the round can do so many things not so well that the true wonder is why the USN didn't think of it first. And the F-111 was never a fighter, only later was it wired up for a sidewinder and to carry internal bombs or fuel in the bombay the M-61 cannon and ammo had to be removed. F-111 was an attack aircraft and always was and attack aircraft and it was a really good attack aircraft and only an accountant could pretend it was any kind of fighter; an accountant named macnamara. and the less you say about the F-35 golden BB magnet the happier I'll be. The only way an F-35 could be worse than it is would be if mercedes benz designed it and airbus built it out of parts made by aboriginals just out of the jungle caves who beat twigs with rocks to make fiber optics.
