Mexican revolutionaries with Pancho Villa far left, early 19th century. Everyone's always having fun in Mexico

  1. Slight correction: early 20th century, not 19th.

  2. Fun Fact: Ammo belts cris-crossed like that make wonderful targets.

  3. In Columbus NM at the Pancho Vila state park they have a museum about the 1916 raid and US incursion into Mexico looking for Villa. That museum was a good stop.

  4. My grandfather fought in the Mexican border campaigns riding horse cavalry. I think he rode with General Pershing (and later fought in WW I and WW II). He used to regale us grandkids with tales of gallantry and danger. He practiced with the cavalry by riding at posts at top speed with melons or gourds on top of the posts and spear them through.

    1. Mine too Soylant. He served under Pershing on the border chasing Poncho and gang. Back when I was young he showed me pictures of him and his company clad in campaign hats and puttees at their bivouac on the border. gee I wish I had them pics now,

    1. He's correcting the info that the photo was taken in the 19th century, which is the 1800s, not the 1900s.

  6. I remember reading about Zapata killing a whole prison full of Mexican PW's. Took him all day. That guy was ruthless and bloodthirsty. No different that what prowls down there now.
