24H Le Mans 1960 Maserati Birdcage

  1. There a time when the major auto races allowed a large degree of freedom of design. All sorts of machines showed up at Indy, Formula I, and NASCAR. Parnelli Jones drove one for STP-Paxton Turbocar at Indy in 1967, which didn't finish because of a failed transmission. It failed to qualify in 1968, and later it was banned. Lotus also produced one in 1968.

Now all the races demand identical cars. And all the races are boring. Formula I has even banned the Grid Girls, or at least tried to.
