And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

No conservative liked him as a consequence, but as far as I know he's still married to Mary Matalin, who was a Republican P.O. for Bush. I flew with him once, I was coming home from a tough hitch in the Caribbean, and he had been visiting on a consulting gig, advising the 'Party-in-power' with an election coming up. He was gregarious and chatty and spent a good bit of time talking with the cabin crew.
