And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
I was just a wee tyke at the time, but I remember my Uncle Ralph had a car that looked just like that (even the same color!) when he visited my Grammaw's and Grampaw's home in Owensboro, Kentucky, where Mama and us kids were living while Daddy was at Ashiya Air Force Base in Japan, following his service in Korean War.
A quarter of a century later, I too, would serve in Korea, AND both of us served under the same command, i.e., the Eighth Army!
A friend has one. It's even the same color. It is in showroom condition. It's a luxury ride. I've ridden in it. It glides over bumpy roads, The potholes that would shake my teeth in my 4x4 seemed like a lump of feathers in the Buick.
This Buick was built in 1947 but is an example of the 1948 model year. The difference being the vertical grille teeth disappearing up under the horizontal chrome arch. The bottom pictured hood ornament is from a Lincoln, probably a 1949 or 50 model.

It reminds me of the Stephen King novel of the same name, "From a Buick 8"....
ReplyDeleteThe Rain Man car was the 1949 version. At first, I thought this was it.
ReplyDeleteI'm an excellent driver.

ReplyDeleteThe straight eight under the hood is a work of art. You can idle it with a full shot glass on top of the engine and never see a ripple.
ReplyDeleteMy dad's 1957 Hemi Desoto would idle just the same. It amazed me(a Ford youth of the time!
