Halifax crew amidst the damage caused when it was hit by a falling bomb from another aircraft while raiding Cologne on the night of 28/29 June 1943.
The bomb did not go off because the arming propeller on the bomb did not make enough turns to arm the bomb. The damage to the plane was entirely from kinetic energy.
In the Falklands war the hapless Argentines delivered a number of bombs on British ships by jet aircraft that did not explode because the bombs did not have the time from release to impact to arm. Lucky Brits.
Lucky they made it back to tell the story and get a glory shot.
