And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
I must have 30-40 WWII comedies in my DVD library and Father Goose is probably at or near the top. When Caron and Cary Grant worked out their sexual tensions, the scene where that little girl got on the radio and asked Trevor Howard to get a priest, Howard said "Oh my god, he killed her," I nearly pissed my pants! There was no setup, they were slapping each other in his boat and the next scene had the girl calling for a priest.
She was thermonuclear hot in those days and she was fantastic actress!
In her day, she was exceptionally hot.

I couldn't take my eyes off her dancing in "Singin' in the Rain" Hot was an understatement. She was "Hot while French"
ReplyDeleteI don't think she was in Singin n the Rain - maybe you're thinking about Rita Moreno?
DeleteBut not for nothing, Leslie Caron was very hot in her day!
Doh! Had the image but named the wrong Gene Kelly movie - meant to say "American in Paris"

ReplyDeleteHow is it possible that entire generations were simply more mature?
ReplyDelete"Movie stars" of the current day look like adolescents even in their 40s.
