The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? anyone actually serious about removing privately held guns from our country would be standing tall and screaming for a constitutional convention or other authorized processes to change the articles as written and ratified by the founders and the People. An article of the Constitution cannot be LEGALLY changed by fiat or "law" or "regulation". Any thing less than that is not only dishonest to themselves and others but amoral to the extreme. Any grade schooler from the nineteen sixties who took a civics class or read "animal farm" as a class project would have a basic understanding of the dangers of unrestrained power(federalism)in the hands of the few over the lives of the many. Present and former members of the military who were under arms took an oath to first defend the Constitution before all else. All those who took the oath of office for a Federal government office took an oath to do the same. None of those persons were ever required to rescind that oath when they separated from such service.Call me Captain Obvious. Politicians who chose to usurp citizens Constitutionally Protected Natural Rights should consider the unintended consequences of their choices somewhat more closely than is apparent at this time. Why would they? Because once shooting starts, it doesn't stop until there is a lack of ammo or targets. I was once asked why I "need" a thirty round magazine for my AR-15. My answer was "because I want one". that is all the answer I need.
I read yesterday that Virginia has its own 2nd Amendment-type clause in the State Constitution that is at least as strongly worded as the one in the US Constitution. One wonders what their efforts have been to date, to overturn that. As you mentioned, politicians are often quick to imagine their authorities and start invoking them accordingly. that is not how to go about it. someone voted these idiots into office. find them and show them the error of their ways. it is never desirable to start shooting people out of hand because you do not agree with them. Impeach the governor and legislative members for violating the constitution. hire good lawyers and work at it. if that all doesn't work out, maybe the Army of Virginia should look into it.
