And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

A 5 MB hard drive being transported by a PanAm plane in 1956
we had a 10 gb hard drive from 1973 at a NASA satellite tracking station. size of a beer keg, in a frame the size of a laundry dryer. 3 phase 480 volts. still in ise in 1994 when they shut the station down.
Those two Navy guys in the picture will make sure that it enters the US Government supply chain on time and below cost. In fact, it should be ready to go late in FY 2020.
IBM 350, 3.75MB. In use until the late 60s or so. The GE stuff (later Honeywell) surpassed IBM around that time with systems that used multiple smaller drives with easily switched media. Sperry stuck with the big stuff and was left in the dust. Is that piece of twine a joke? Those things ran almost a ton!
It makes you wonder how long did it run before being replaced by a newer, faster and smaller one.
