And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
The German U-Boat crews enjoyed their experience earlier in the war during "The Happy Time". Later in the war when France was captured, U-Boat pens were lost, and every other naval base was bombed continually and radar equipped aircraft flew from land bases and aircraft carriers, it was a short-term career.

That is a SAMPSON class destroyer, the predecessor to the famous WICKES class four piper destroyers. That is a "dazzle scheme" paint job, though I have my doubts about the orange, but there were some passing strange dazzle schemes. I can think of better places to put one's ship, than right in front of a U-boat.
