I wonder how durable these track things are. They could get you into some tight spots, then break, and be unfixable on the trail

  1. They're quite unimpressive when they break thru some ice....better have some survival gear with you, be prepared to pack out and wait till spring to retrieve.

  2. There are a lot of variables in terrain and those units have a lot of moving parts. I'm with Danne. Bring snow shoes and gear and be prepared to walk when it breaks.

  3. I saw one in real life yesterday, it was on a trailer heading north on I-5 in Calif.

  4. Fairly mature technology. Based on various snow machines used at ski resorts.

  5. Not only could the track mechanism break but the massive torque needed to run these could cause components of the drive train to break.
