Runaway Semi uses one of those escape ramps - and goes a long way up there.

  1. That was a tremendous amount of energy to expend... Not a roller coaster I'd care to ride.... wow.

  2. Amazes me we can't produce a reliable and redundant brake system for rigs/trailers. Not all areas have those escape ramps.

    1. Brakes are reliable when properly maintained and inspected. Millions of trucks on the road yet escape ramps are rarely used.

  3. If you can't stop because you have no breaks, how do you keep from rolling back downhill once you stop on the runaway ramp?

    1. The ramps are pea gravel. The truck tires sink in.

  4. My great-aunt got one of those put in for McConnellsburg, PA. She lived on main street and was tired of having them go through town uncontrolled...

  5. WB I-70 past the tunnels. I've never seen a truck go that far up any ramp. That is 3' deep pea gravel.
