  2. I'm sure they're not cheap, but isn't most of the expense frontloaded into R&D?

  3. The main reason such craft did not go into production is they are inherently aerodynamically unstable. They were difficul and risky to fly. It was the advent of small powerful computers and fly by wire technology that made the F117, B2 Spirit and other such oddly shaped but stealthy designs possible to fly in real world conditions.
