B-24D 42-41142, “THUNDERBIRD II”, 308th/375th Chengkung, China 1 Apr 44, the result of a runaway propeller, on takeoff, that cut into the flight deck.

  1. By that point in the war a "D" model would have been worn out. Not unusual for parts to fall off a bird that war weary.---Ray

  2. the warning star with my name on the side went to DM with 27.6K flight hours on the clock. parts kept in close formation during the last flight with out issue. got there and drained all POL and sat with a case of Bud and watched a D8 Cat turn it into beer can fodder. a very fulfilling day it was.
