A serious ruler

8 comments:

  1. Most mechanics pocket scales can measure from 1/4 inch to 1/64th
graduations. The slider makes it into a depth guage. In my
    drafting tools, I several 6" scale rules (think 3/8" or 1/2" =
1". But my favorite pocket scale is this: (Warning this is
a bit racy, but it is an actual product.)

    1. It's not clear whether that's RCH or BCH; I've always found the RCH to be the finer measurement.

We need to have an "Area of Freckle," too. That would be handy to measure!

  4. Standard scales used in my world. I also have a 12ft metal tape measure that has fractions on one edge and decimals on the opposite edge.. Confuses the hell out people that "borrow" it. I tell people that fractions are for carpenters. Decimals are cat/aircraft builders. The average car builder usually misses my point.

  5. Yes, but do you have a diameter tape? I second the motion on adopting freckle radius as a standardized unit.

    1. AKA a Pi tape. Used them on 25 to 30+ inch paper machine rolls.

    2. I know about Pi tapes but in my world the biggest tube used is 4" occasionally. Most diameters are 2' and smaller. Calipers and calculator always at hand.
