And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
I have a Kimber Raptor 2 that has a lot of the same bling. I realize that some of your readers are purists, but I think it's fun and it's not my only pistol.
My current favorite is my Kimber Stainless Compact, purchased in 2000 and lightly customized as below. Since then, flawless function through thousands of rounds.
After seeing the 1911s posted here, I reread Bill Wilson's book "The Combat .45 Automatic". My pistols are set up as described in his book- simple and effective mods with the emphasis on reliability. His current offerings are considerably more elaborate. Kuhnhausen's manuals are an excellent resource.
The handgun is a 25 yard killer that is used at less than 25 feet 90% of the time. I don't need fancy at 25 feet. I need something that was designed to kill men at close range, and has had the benefit of testing under every possible conditions that this planet can offer for 107 years, and has proven to be the best at what it does. Give me minimum parts. Minimum do-dads. SOLID STEEL. Matt finishes. Easy to strip. Easy to clean. Usable in a WW1 trench. On a Pacific Island. Or in a triple canopy rain forest. That isn't a 1911. That is a gimmick to sell guns.---Ray
yeah. ounces count. also capacity. daily carry is XD-45 with 14 rounds in it. also reliable. have 5500 rounds thru mine with out fail. slightly more compact than the 1911 and admittedly composite frame but a pretty good defensive weapon. just can not use it as a hammer, club, or anchor. for me, 25 feet is pistol range and out to 25 yards is 12 ga. buckshot range. after that its time to unlimber the thirty caliber. but your right; designed to kill men at close range.

DeleteNot being a purist, I like the looks of this one. Clean but nice, with a hint of snakeskin on the grip.
ReplyDeleteIt's been a while since I had to kill anybody, and I hope it stays that way.
